Conversation
Quemerford House sits adjacent to a conservation area. The street is lined with time-honoured materials such as red stock brick and Victorian tiles. The conversation centred around how the Studio could pay homage to that rich, traditional fabric. The brief challenged the Studio to create a home that was tucked away, yet would still be an impactful structure that does not compete with the history of the surrounding context.
Studio Approach
To acknowledge the surrounding context, the Studio designed the exterior with red brick Victorian tiles. Access to the home is hidden away from the street, reserving its impression for those who come through the gate. Coves will greet the future occupants at the entrance. In considering the lifestyle of the future occupants, the Studio used a high-level strategy to design the layout to fit diverse forms of living. The layout includes private external spaces on both levels of the property, curating the external views.
