TATE MODERN | KARA WALKER'S TURBINE HALL INSTALLATION
It was great to see Kara Walker’s unique fountain design at the far end of the Turbine Hall in the Tate Modern. Widely recognised for her contemporary and provocative designs, her work creates a visual representation and opens a conversation around important topics such as sexuality, race, gender and violence.
This piece titled Fons Americanus is an innovative depiction of the story of the African diaspora and has been created with the intention to cause the viewer to think about what is remembered and forgotten in public monuments.
At 13 metres tall, this piece really stands out and fuses what is usually a relaxing structural piece with a strong portrayal of a reality which once was.
